(WJAR) — A former Providence police officer has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a fatal DUI crash that killed a 53-year-old woman in 2024, the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office announced Thursday.
Daniel Famiglietti, 60, was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years, with seven to serve at the ACI, for causing the death of Linda Sherman. Just before sentencing, Famiglietti pleaded nolo contendere to one count of driving under the influence resulting in death, according to the Attorney General’s office.
Attorney General Peter Neronha expressed condolences to the victim’s family, saying, “It is always a tragedy when someone is killed by a drunk driver… Linda Sherman lost her life. Linda had friends and family who loved her, whose lives are forever altered by her death. While nothing can change what happened, it is my hope that this sentence will bring Linda’s family a measure of justice.”
The crash occurred on June 20, 2024, at the intersection of Boston Neck Road and Earle Drive in North Kingstown. Investigators determined that Famiglietti struck Sherman’s bicycle with his Jeep. He admitted to drinking prior to the crash and failed field sobriety tests.
