TUSCOLA COUNTY, Mich. — Former Unionville Fire Chief Nicholas Sakon, 35, has been charged with embezzlement for allegedly misusing funds from the fire department’s nonprofit account for personal expenses.

According to Michigan State Police, Sakon is accused of stealing over $5,000 from the Unionville Fire Department since May 2023. The funds, intended for the department’s nonprofit operations, were allegedly diverted for his personal use.

He was arraigned on Thursday in Tuscola County District Court on one count of embezzlement of $1,000 to $20,000. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $15,000.
