Amid the economic slowdown in the diamond market, Daksh Trivedi, a former diamond business manager from Dhanera, Gujarat, turned to motorcycle theft after losing his job in Mumbai. The 28-year-old man, who had been struggling with personal issues, was arrested by Navrangpura police in Ahmedabad after being caught with one of the stolen motorcycles.

The Navrangpura police squad had been investigating a series of two-wheeler thefts where motorcycles were left with their keys still in the ignition. After receiving a tip-off, police set up surveillance and apprehended Trivedi, who was spotted riding a stolen motorcycle near the Mithakhali underbridge.

During interrogation, Trivedi admitted to stealing 11 motorcycles over the past three months from areas such as Vastrapur, Navrangpura, Ghatlodia, and University. He revealed that he had sold the stolen motorcycles to Prahladsinh, who in turn sold them in Rajasthan. Both Trivedi and Prahlad were arrested, and the police recovered 11 stolen motorcycles worth approximately Rs6.47 lakh.

According to Navrangpura Police Inspector A A Desai, Trivedi had previously worked as a manager in a diamond firm in Mumbai, but the economic downturn in the diamond market led to the loss of his job. Unable to return home due to family issues, Trivedi moved to Ahmedabad, where his situation worsened, and he resorted to stealing motorcycles to survive.

His initial theft was opportunistic: noticing a motorcycle with the keys in the ignition, he seized the chance and started stealing vehicles that were left unattended in public places. This led to a string of thefts across several localities in Ahmedabad, which were eventually uncovered by the police investigation.
