GRANBURY, Texas — A Republican political committee member in Texas has been arrested for election fraud after allegedly falsifying her residency documents to run for public office—while wearing a shirt that read, “Ban Democrat Chairs.”
Eva Royer, a member of the Hood County Republican Party, filed to run for Granbury City Council on August 19, 2024. Under Texas election law, candidates must reside within city limits for at least six months prior to filing. Royer claimed she had lived in Granbury for nearly three years.
However, an investigation revealed she had only changed her address in July 2024—just one month before filing—and that the listed residence was an Airbnb property operated by her own real estate brokerage, for which she had even paid hotel occupancy taxes.
Further raising red flags, Royer cast a primary vote in March 2024 using a different address outside the city limits, suggesting she was not legally eligible to run for the city council seat.
After scrutiny from both officials and the public, and a special council meeting convened to address the matter, Royer ultimately withdrew from the race.
She was arrested shortly afterward, seen wearing a shirt bearing the message “Ban Democrat Chairs” as she stood outside a Hood County Republican Executive Committee meeting.
Royer is now facing felony charges, including falsifying government documents and voter fraud, both of which are considered serious offenses under Texas law.
