LATHAM, N.Y. (WRGB) — A 21-year-old man from Saratoga Springs was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in Colonie on the evening of September 6.
Eugene R. Shaw is facing a list of criminal charges, including:
Criminal Possession of Stolen Property (Motor Vehicle) – Class E Felony
Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree – Class A Misdemeanor
Acting in a Manner to Injure a Child Under 17 – Class A Misdemeanor (charged twice)
Criminal Mischief: Reckless Property Damage Over $250 – Class A Misdemeanor
Reckless Endangerment of Property – Class B Misdemeanor
According to a New York State Police report, Shaw was behind the wheel of a vehicle reported stolen from an apartment complex on the west side of Saratoga Springs around 6:30 p.m. Saturday night.
Roughly 20 minutes later, a hit-and-run accident involving Shaw occurred on Troy Schenectady Road in Latham at 6:50 p.m., according to a separate public incident report.
Authorities quickly located the stolen vehicle, triggering a police pursuit on the Northway, heading southbound. The chase involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including:
Saratoga Springs Police Department (SSPD)
Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office
New York State Police
Shaw was ultimately apprehended in Colonie and booked on the above charges. No injuries have been reported at this time.
Police have not released further information regarding the identity of the child involved or the specific circumstances that led to the child endangerment charges.
