EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A local contractor has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a construction scam targeting a homeowner in El Paso County.
Detectives from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office took 38-year-old Esli Abraham Escobar-Luevano into custody on Thursday after an investigation into fraudulent business practices.
The case began when a victim reported hiring Summit Landscape to build a custom metal fence. However, the contractor — identified as Escobar-Luevano — repeatedly delayed the project and failed to provide a refund after not completing the work.
During the investigation, detectives found that Escobar-Luevano already had an active warrant for theft of property under $2,500. Authorities then obtained an additional warrant related to the construction scam.
Escobar-Luevano was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a total bond set at $4,500.
Police urge residents to verify contractors’ credentials and check for past complaints before hiring for construction or home improvement projects.
