In a major gold misappropriation case, the police on October 28, 2025, arrested the driver of Erode Cooperative Urban Bank Limited for his alleged role in the crime.

Bank officials discovered discrepancies between pledged gold and corresponding loan records during an internal inspection. Following this, a complaint was lodged with the Erode Government Hospital police station on October 25, reporting that 269 bags of pledged jewellery were missing.

The complaint also highlighted the suspected involvement of P. Ramesh Kumar (42), a jewellery appraiser from Rangampalayam. Authorities are investigating the full extent of the misappropriation, which reportedly involves 8.25 kg of pledged gold.

Police continue to probe the case and trace the missing jewellery while examining records and questioning the involved personnel.
