In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Ernakulam Rural Police on Monday arrested two individuals with 14 kilograms of suspected ganja.

The accused have been identified as:

Santhosh (36), a resident of Tiruppur

Ratheesh Ayyappan (45), a resident of Palakkad

The seizure was made by a joint team from the Ernakulam Rural District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force and the Perumbavoor police, who acted on a tip-off and intercepted a mini pick-up van suspected to be used for smuggling the contraband.

Police said the accused were transporting the ganja through the Perumbavoor region, likely en route to supply local dealers. Investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the consignment and identify the wider network involved.

The two suspects have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further interrogation is underway to determine if they have prior criminal records.

Authorities praised the swift and coordinated action by the anti-narcotics unit and local police, calling it a significant blow to drug trafficking in the region.
