DEARBORN COUNTY, IN – A Cincinnati woman is facing charges after allegedly driving drunk the wrong way on Interstate 74 in Dearborn County, Indiana, and colliding with a state trooper’s vehicle early Sunday morning.
The Indiana State Police (ISP) reported that just before 1 a.m., troopers heard dispatch reports of a vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes near the Indiana/Ohio state line.
Multiple 911 callers reported seeing a Toyota Camry driving the wrong way.
Trooper Brian Weigel located the car near the 161-mile-marker and positioned his patrol vehicle in front of the suspect’s vehicle to block her path. The driver, later identified as 35-year-old Erin Dowers of Cincinnati, tried to avoid the cruiser by entering the median.
According to ISP, the two vehicles collided at low speed, but Dowers continued driving west until Trooper Jordan Hartmann helped bring the vehicle to a stop.
Dowers was taken into custody and transported to the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center, where she faces preliminary charges of:
Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)
Reckless Driving
Sgt. Jared Black and Trooper Jordan Craig also assisted in the incident and investigation.
