SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) — A Springfield man was arrested after authorities uncovered two stolen jet skis and multiple stolen dirt bikes in a local storage unit.

On July 23, Springfield Police responded to a storage facility on Page Boulevard following reports of suspicious activity. Officers learned that a jet ski and trailer stolen from South Hadley had been brought to the site.

After securing a search warrant, South Hadley police found the stolen jet ski and trailer in the unit, along with a second set of stolen jet skis and trailers reported missing from Connecticut.

The investigation grew into a multi-agency effort involving the Springfield Police Auto Theft Unit, South Hadley Police, Connecticut State Police, and Westfield Police Department. Detectives identified 21-year-old Erick Hernandez of Springfield as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.

Surveillance footage also captured Hernandez storing two stolen dirt bikes in the unit. He was seen returning with another individual before riding the bikes away. One of these dirt bikes was involved in a crash in Springfield on July 29, leading to a forthcoming criminal complaint for the rider.

On August 27, the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Hernandez on Pearl Street.

Hernandez faces multiple charges including:

Arrest warrant

Four counts of receiving a stolen motor vehicle

Three counts of receiving stolen property over $1,200

The Springfield Police Department continues to investigate the case.
