LYONS, N.Y. — A 60-year-old Ontario man has been arrested following an investigation into alleged welfare fraud in Wayne County.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said deputies took Eric Marino of Lake View Knolls in the Town of Ontario into custody on Friday.

Marino is charged with Welfare Fraud in the Third Degree, Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree.

The charges stem from a joint investigation conducted by the Wayne County Department of Social Services and the Sheriff’s Office. Authorities allege Marino failed to report income he earned from Uber while receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

Investigators claim Marino improperly received more than $4,000 in public assistance benefits to which he was not entitled.

He was transported to the Wayne County Jail for processing and centralized arraignment on February 20. Deputies said the investigation was conducted with assistance from the Department of Social Services.
