Eric M. Smith Arrested After Gunfire and Police Chase

Georgetown man faces multiple charges after Sunday incident

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. — July 13, 2025
Authorities in Georgetown County have arrested Eric M. Smith, 44, following a disturbing incident that involved gunfire and a brief vehicle pursuit Sunday night.

According to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jason Lesley, the incident began with an argument on McNeal Lane, during which Smith allegedly fired a gun into the air and the ground. The altercation reportedly involved an unidentified individual.

Deputies responded and attempted to stop Smith’s vehicle as he left the scene. However, he refused to pull over, leading officers on a pursuit. He ultimately stopped at a residence on Parkersville Road, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Smith faces several charges including:

Aggravated breach of peace

Failure to stop for blue light and siren

Driving under suspension

Open container violation

He is currently being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center.

The investigation remains ongoing.
