COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) — Three people were arrested Tuesday night after Colorado Springs police located a stolen vehicle connected to a case from the previous day.
The investigation began Monday when officers responded to reports of a gray 2005 Suzuki Aerio stolen from the 1000 block of South Chelton Road. On Tuesday around 8:30 p.m., detectives found the vehicle near Constitution Avenue and Akers Drive. When they attempted to stop it, the driver fled.
Police followed the car to East Pikes Peak Avenue and Academy Boulevard, where officers grappled the vehicle and detained the occupants.
According to CSPD, 24-year-old Eric Diaz was charged with motor vehicle theft. 28-year-old Alejandro Ruiz faces charges including eluding, motor vehicle theft, and possession of a stolen firearm.
A juvenile passenger was also taken into custody on an outstanding domestic violence failure-to-appear warrant. Their name was not released due to age.
During a search of the vehicle, detectives recovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun believed to be stolen.
The investigation is ongoing.
