WARE, Hertfordshire — Erald Kamberi, 21, was jailed for 10 years after causing the death of 34-year-old Phillip Bruce in a collision on August 1.
Kamberi, who has no fixed address, was being pursued by police along London Road in Ware when his Vauxhall Astra struck Bruce, a moped rider. Kamberi pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and driving without insurance at St Albans Crown Court.
He received a 10-year prison sentence, a 15-year driving ban, and must pass an extended driving test before regaining his license. Authorities also announced Kamberi will be considered for deportation once his sentence is complete.
Det Sgt Ben Heath condemned Kamberi’s reckless behavior, stating it led to the loss of a beloved community member. Kamberi also fled the scene after the crash.
The police’s conduct during the pursuit is now under investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Tributes poured in for Phillip Bruce, with his mother Jennifer Dover describing him as a “big, gentle giant.”
