The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested two key accused in a Rs25-crore minority scholarship scam in Hathras. Dharmveer Singh and Sarvesh Pachauri, manager and treasurer of Madrasa Mohammad Sahab Islamia Fokania in Sikandrarau, were apprehended in the Sahabad area on November 12. The arrests are part of the EOW’s statewide campaign to track absconding economic offenders.
Investigations revealed that 62 educational institutions and madrasas fraudulently claimed nearly Rs25 crore meant for minority students studying up to Class 8 during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic sessions.
The case was initially registered at Mursan police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The detailed investigation was later handed over to the EOW, which uncovered that managers, principals, and government officials had forged lists of fake minority students and fabricated demand letters to siphon scholarship funds.
The probe identified 81 individuals involved, including three public servants and 78 private persons. Charge sheets have been filed against 63 accused, while efforts continue to apprehend the remaining 16. An EOW officer emphasized that arrests are being made to ensure no accused escapes justice and reiterated that the crackdown on financial frauds and corruption across the state will continue.
