Khurda, Odisha: In a swift and successful operation, Odisha Police arrested five individuals, including an engineer, for the abduction and robbery of a businessman from Balugaon in Khurda district.
The victim, Sushil Subudhi, was abducted late Saturday night while returning home after closing his shop. Acting on a missing person complaint filed by his wife, police traced and rescued him within hours from Chandapur in Nayagarh district.
The key accused has been identified as Suraj Dora, an engineer. His accomplices include Abhijeet Patnaik and Muna Behera from Ganjam, and Dharmaraj Palei and Chandan Jena from Khurdha.
According to police, the gang intercepted Subudhi, forcibly dragged him into a car, snatched Rs20 lakh in cash, and stole his scooter. As part of a well-coordinated response, law enforcement set up checkpoints along NH-16.
Sensing danger, the accused attempted to flee but were apprehended after a high-speed chase. Authorities recovered Rs6.5 lakh from the stolen cash and seized the vehicle used in the abduction.
All five accused are now in custody, and further investigation is underway, including efforts to recover the remaining stolen money and determine if the group is linked to other crimes.
