Bengaluru – In a shocking incident of betrayal, the Kadugodi police arrested a 38-year-old civil engineer, identified as Manjunath, for allegedly stealing gold valuables worth Rs5.8 lakh from his colleague’s house. The accused committed the crime to repay a personal loan of Rs30 lakh.

A native of Jevargi and currently residing in Ayyappa Nagar, Bengaluru, Manjunath lived with his wife and children. According to police, he had been facing severe financial stress due to the large loan he had taken.

Police began investigating after a burglary was reported during the Ganesha festival, when the victim and his family were away visiting a temple. CCTV footage from the neighborhood, along with inputs from the homeowner, led officers to identify Manjunath as the suspect.

Investigators revealed that Manjunath had frequented his colleague’s home and was aware of their movements. Taking advantage of their absence, he broke open the front door and stole the gold items, which he later pawned to raise money.

Kadugodi police successfully recovered the stolen gold, and Manjunath is now in custody. Further investigation is ongoing to determine if he is linked to any other similar incidents.
