Thai authorities have arrested a Singaporean national wanted in connection with a Cambodia-based scam operation after he fled to northeastern Thailand and hid at his Thai wife’s residence in Khon Kaen.

Police identified the suspect as Eng Sie, 32, also known as Brian. He was taken into custody at a home in Dong Lan subdistrict, Si Chompu district, after officers discovered he had overstayed his Thai visa. Eng Sie is also the subject of an Interpol red notice on suspicion of involvement in organized crime, according to Pol Lt Col Narongrit Phumphuang of the Technology Crime Suppression Division.

Investigators say Eng Sie is one of 34 suspects wanted by the Singapore Police Force for alleged involvement in a scam syndicate operating out of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, which targeted victims in Singapore. The group is believed to include 27 Singaporeans and seven Malaysians, authorities said.

Thai police learned that Eng Sie had married a Thai woman and was staying at her home in Khon Kaen. A search warrant approved by the Chum Phae Court on Nov. 13 led to his arrest.

During questioning, Eng Sie reportedly admitted he worked as a finance administrator for the scam group in Cambodia. Police said the syndicate impersonated government officials and used threats to coerce victims into sending money. Eng Sie allegedly earned about $4,000 per month for his role in the operation.

According to Singapore-based outlet CNA, at least three suspects connected to the syndicate — including Eng Sie — have now been arrested and are facing prosecution. Further legal proceedings and potential extradition are expected as investigations continue.
