ABERDEEN, N.C. — Heather Berube, a 38-year-old Fayetteville resident, has been arrested after being accused of embezzling over $41,000 from Reservoir International, a local business that provides training and services to both government and private organizations.
According to Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis, the department received a report of embezzlement on March 3, which prompted an investigation.
The Investigation:
Aberdeen detectives gathered crucial information by reviewing financial statements, documents, and emails, leading them to discover that Berube had taken over $41,000 from the business between December 2023 and August 2024. The funds were allegedly taken in the form of unauthorized bonuses, raises, and credit card expenses used for personal gain.
Arrest and Charges:
Following the investigation, arrest warrants were issued for Berube on March 17 for felony embezzlement. She was arrested on March 31 by the Fayetteville Police Department and was placed under a secured bond of $10,000.
Berube is currently facing serious charges and is due to appear in court for further proceedings.
