Emmanuel Awahnse Arrested for Goat Theft in Ogun State

Suspect caught at child naming ceremony in Ipokia

ABEOkUTA, Ogun State — Emmanuel Awahnse, 27, was arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Community Social Orientation and Safety Corps for allegedly stealing three goats in Ipokia Local Council.

The suspect was apprehended at a church during his child’s naming ceremony, authorities said. The Corps Commander, Dr Soji Ganzallo, confirmed that Awahnse was first spotted on February 6, 2026, riding a motorcycle with an accomplice along Madoga–Ita-Ege road while carrying a black bag. When approached by operatives of the Ifonyintedo Division, the suspects fled, abandoning the motorcycle and bag containing the three goats.

A surveillance team was deployed under the direction of the Ipokia Area Commander, ACC Aliu Yusuf, leading to Awahnse’s arrest on February 19 around 1:30 p.m. During preliminary questioning, he reportedly confessed that he and an accomplice, identified as Ketonsu, also known as Ijagun, stole the goats.

The suspect and the recovered livestock have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Idiroko Division for further investigation and possible prosecution.
