NEWARK, N.J. — Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. announced the arrest of eight individuals on June 19 following a year-long narcotics investigation by the department’s Criminal Intelligence Unit.
The suspects are facing multiple charges, including:
Possession and distribution of controlled dangerous substances (CDS)
Distribution within 1,000 feet of a school
Distribution within 500 feet of a public park
Unlawful possession of a weapon
As part of the operation, officers seized:
Over 1,000 glassine envelopes of heroin
More than 100 grams of crack cocaine
Four firearms
$6,321 in cash
Public Safety Director Miranda praised the unit’s dedication, stating:
“I commend the detectives of the Criminal Intelligence Unit for their unwavering tenacity in identifying and safely arresting these CDS distribution suspects. Removing eight suspected narcotics distributors from our streets supports our crime reduction efforts and produces a safer Newark.”
The department emphasized that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Newark authorities say the arrests mark a significant disruption in local drug activity and are part of an ongoing strategy to reduce violent crime and narcotics distribution in the city.
