Eluru Police Arrest Chanapathi Durgaprasad in Murder for Gain Case

Accused strangled elderly woman, stole gold worth Rs 4 lakh

In a shocking murder for gain case in Eluru district, police arrested Chanapathi Durgaprasad for the killing of 65-year-old Chanapathi Ramanamma, who was alone at home when the crime occurred. On March 27, the accused broke into her house in Vennavalli Vari Peta, strangled her using a nylon rope, and tied her hands and legs. He then stole gold ornaments valued at Rs Four lakh along with cash and attempted to destroy evidence by pouring petrol on the body and setting it on fire.

A special investigation team, led by Eluru District Additional SP (Admin) N. Suryachandra Rao and Eluru SDPO D. Shravan Kumar under the supervision of District In-charge SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi, quickly launched an investigation. On March 30 at around 11:00 AM, the accused was apprehended near the Public Health and Executive Engineer Office in Eluru while riding a motorcycle.

During interrogation, Durgaprasad confessed to the crime and detailed how he committed the murder. Police have recovered the stolen gold, cash, and the motorcycle used in the crime. The case continues to be investigated further.
