MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) apprehended two suspects involved in the theft of an ATM on Wednesday, though one suspect remains at large.
According to MCSO, deputies responded to an ATM alarm at approximately 3:15 a.m. at a Wells Fargo bank in New Caney. The alarm company provided a description of the suspects and their getaway vehicle.
Officers from the Splendora Police Department (SPD) spotted the suspect vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver refused to pull over, leading to a police chase. The suspects eventually crashed their vehicle and fled on foot into nearby woods.
Authorities deployed police dogs and other resources, successfully locating and arresting two suspects: Elton Watson, 34, from Houston, and Wiley Smith, 39, from Spring. They were taken to the Montgomery County Jail, where they face multiple felony charges, including Evading with a Motor Vehicle, Theft of an ATM, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Criminal Mischief.
The investigation continues as MCSO actively searches for the third suspect involved in the incident.
