PARAMOUNT, Calif. (KABC) — A man captured on video throwing rocks at federal agents during an immigration enforcement operation in June has been arrested after fleeing to Mexico, the FBI confirmed.
Elpidio Reyna, 39, of Compton, was taken into custody Wednesday morning at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in San Diego County, following a negotiated surrender.
The incident occurred on June 7, near Alondra Boulevard in Paramount, coinciding with the start of immigration raids in the Los Angeles area. Reyna is accused of assaulting a federal officer and damaging law enforcement vehicles during the confrontation.
Following the attack, Reyna fled to Mexico, where he was located in Sinaloa. Intense publicity surrounding the incident contributed to his apprehension. After surrender negotiations, Reyna was taken into FBI custody at the U.S.-Mexico border.
He was transported to Los Angeles and was expected to appear before a U.S. magistrate judge on Wednesday.
