HENDERSON, Ky. — Ellis Barnes is facing criminal charges following a Saturday evening incident involving suspected drugs and firearm-related items.

According to the Evansville Police Department, officers were monitoring a man along Judson Street who was seen with an AR-15-style rifle magazine. Police said Barnes placed a backpack inside a nearby gas station and left it behind.

Officers later inspected the bag and reported finding a large quantity of a green-brown leafy substance believed to be marijuana, small empty baggies, rifle components, and green-tip 5.56 mm ammunition.

Authorities said Barnes fled the area on foot and was briefly lost near the 300 block of Sweetser Avenue before officers located and arrested him.

Barnes has been charged with dealing a controlled substance and resisting law enforcement. He has since been released.
