Eleven Arrested in Ahmedabad for Forging Aadhaar Cards in Cyber Crime Scheme

Gang used fake Aadhaar cards to open “benami” bank accounts

The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Police have arrested 11 individuals in connection with a major forgery operation, where they allegedly used fake Aadhaar cards to open benami bank accounts in various branches to carry out cyber crimes. The police stated that the gang’s leader, Suresh Jagdish Bishnoi, remains absconding.

The police acted on a tip-off and raided a premises in the Chandkheda area of Ahmedabad. Nine of the 11 accused were arrested, including Bishnoi, who was leading the operation. All the members of the gang are from Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

During their investigation, police found that the accused had been using fake Aadhaar cards to open accounts at multiple banks. They would hand over account details to Bishnoi and another accomplice, Sunil Dhirani, based in Jodhpur. The cards often used the same phone number but different addresses, and the accused allegedly altered the address details to locations in Ahmedabad, Morbi, and Rajkot.

Police seized 12 mobile phones, 21 identity documents, 10 bank passbooks, 43 ATM cards, and 15 SIM cards during the raid. Further investigation revealed that the gang had opened accounts across 26 branches, with 109 complaints lodged against these accounts in 21 states, including four from Gujarat.

Among the arrested was Rakesh Sahiram Bishnoi, who was found in possession of a pistol with seven live cartridges during the search. Two more accused, Lalit Shankarlal Bishnoi and Kuldeep Hanumanram Kichar, were arrested in Rajasthan. However, Sunil Dhirani, the gang’s leader, is still at large.

The authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the cyber crime operation, with multiple complaints related to the accounts opened by the accused.
