BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A 26-year-old Birmingham man, Elantra Bass, was arrested Thursday night following a police chase that ended with him fleeing on foot across I-65 before being captured.
According to Birmingham Police, officers from the Special Operations Bureau’s Specialized Teams were working a graduation detail when they spotted Bass, who was wanted for failure to appear on a murder warrant.
Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop at Bessemer Road and Avenue W, but Bass refused to pull over and sped away, eventually merging onto I-65 North. He later abandoned his vehicle near 16th Street North, ran across the interstate, and was apprehended in the 1300 block of 6th Street North.
After his arrest, Bass was taken to the Birmingham Police Administration Building, where he was interviewed by homicide detectives. He will be booked into the Jefferson County Jail with no bond on the outstanding murder warrant.
The investigation remains ongoing.
