In a significant breakthrough, Noida police arrested eight members of a gang involved in stealing valuable equipment, including radio receiver units (RRUs), from mobile towers. The arrest took place on Friday, and authorities recovered 35 RRUs, worth Rs3.5 crore, along with a WagonR car and Rs4,850 in cash from the accused.
According to Shakti Mohan Avasthy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Central Noida, several complaints had been received about the theft of valuable equipment from mobile towers across the district. The police team, including officials from CRT, SWAT, and the Surajpur police station, worked together to apprehend the suspects.
The arrested gang members have been identified as:
Salim Malik (38)
Abbas Malik alias Bashu (57) – the kingpin of the gang
Shanu Malik (40)
Shanu (37)
Imran Malik (23)
Salman Quereishi (25) – all from Muradnagar, Ghaziabad
Suhail Qureshi (25) from Baghpat
Shahnawaz alias Sonu (32) from Muzaffarnagar
Abbas Malik, identified as the gang’s kingpin, and his accomplices have been linked to multiple thefts over the past year. The criminals revealed that they had stolen valuable equipment from mobile towers across Noida and neighboring areas, selling the items for profit.
The police are continuing their investigations to uncover the full extent of the gang’s criminal activities and to track any remaining stolen goods. Authorities have emphasized that the arrest will curb similar thefts in the region.
