The Aishbag Police arrested eight employees of a call centre on Tuesday for their involvement in an online share trading scam that defrauded people across the country by promising hefty returns on investments.
The case was registered following a complaint by a fraud victim from Maharashtra, leading to the arrest of call centre operator Afzal Khan. During a raid on February 22, police seized 87 computers, mobiles, 29 SIM cards, a modem, and several documents from the call centre.
The investigation revealed that 20 employees were working at the call centre, which was named Ideology ATS and located at Prabhat Crossing. The employees would call people across the country, offering them opportunities to invest in online share trading with the promise of significant returns.
A further probe revealed that an FIR had been filed in Maharashtra against the bank accounts run by Afzal Khan, who, along with his daughter Sahiba Khan, had defrauded hundreds of individuals across India. Investigations showed that Rs95 lakh was transferred from people across the country into accounts linked to Afzal Khan and his associates.
TI Jitendra Singh Garhwal confirmed that Ramchandra Yadav, Braj Kishor Sahu, Saurabh Kushwaha, Vipin Ghosh, Shreyansh Sen, Ranu Bhumarkar, Ankur Machiwar, and Monis were arrested in connection with the fraud.
ACP Surabhi Meena stated that efforts were underway to trace Sahiba Khan, who remains at large. Police are continuing their investigation to uncover the role of other suspects and are also scrutinizing properties acquired by Afzal Khan and his family through their fraudulent activities.
