In a major crackdown, police in Purnia district, Bihar, arrested eight individuals involved in an illegal lottery racket on Monday. The accused were operating from the Hanuman Bagh area in Prabhat Colony under the K Haat police station jurisdiction.
Authorities seized a significant haul during the operation, including 22,000 lottery tickets, a sum of Rs 64,930 in cash, nine mobile phones, one car, and three motorcycles from the suspects. The arrested individuals were identified as Rakesh Ranjan alias Sunny, Mahesh Bahadur, Suraj Kumar Choudhary, Sunil Paswan, Ujjwal Kumar Yadav, Dilkhush Kumar, Md Betab Alam, and Md Hussain.
According to police officials, the gang procured lottery tickets from West Bengal and sold them illegally in Purnia. The police are continuing their investigation, and authorities suggest more individuals involved in the racket may be arrested as the probe progresses.
K Haat SHO Uday Kumar emphasized that the arrested suspects will face charges for running an illegal business, and additional arrests are likely as the investigation unfolds.
