The district police have cracked a newborn baby trafficking gang with the arrest of eight individuals, including four women, an Asha worker, and a Kolkata resident. Authorities recovered the missing newborn and Rs 4 lakh during the operation.

District police chief Shubham Agarwal shared details with the media, stating that police received information on June 27 about a baby boy born on June 23 at Deep Hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh, who went missing shortly after birth. Following the report, the Mandi Gobindgarh police registered a case and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SP (D) Rakesh Kumar Yadav, DSP Gurdeep Singh, and SHO Manpreet Singh.

The SIT arrested Taljinder Singh, Kamlesh Kaur, Bhim Singh, midwife Charan Kaur, and Amandeep Kaur. Interrogation revealed that Charan, Kamlesh, and Amandeep sold the newborn to Rupinder Kaur and Beant Singh for Rs 4 lakh. The couple reportedly took the baby to Kolkata.

A police team was dispatched to Kolkata, where Rupinder, Beant, and resident Prashant Parashar were apprehended. The infant was recovered and presented before the Child Protection Committee in Kolkata. All three were later produced in court and brought to Mandi Gobindgarh police station.

Further investigation revealed that the newborn’s father was complicit and received Rs 1.5 lakh in the transaction.
