On Monday, July 14, 2025, intelligence forces violently arrested Ehsan Khazaei, brother of the late protester Erfan Khazaei, along with his wife, Neda Karegar, in Tehran. The couple was taken to an undisclosed location following a raid involving over 60 intelligence agents at their home.
According to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, during the raid, the agents used force to detain the couple and severely beat Erfan’s mother and brother, Yazdan Khazaei. The agents also confiscated all mobile phones belonging to the family.
Ehsan and Neda are parents to three young children, including an infant.
Erfan Khazaei, a 30-year-old Kurdish man from Kangavar, was killed on September 21, 2022, after being shot by government forces during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests in Shahriar. He was buried far from his hometown in Shahriar.
No details have been released regarding the charges against Ehsan and Neda or the reasons for their arrest.
