WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — A Washoe County jury has convicted Efrain Salazar-Gurrola on drug trafficking charges stemming from a 2022 investigation, according to the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office.
In mid-September 2022, the Reno Police Department received reports that Salazar-Gurrola was selling heroin and methamphetamine in the area. The Regional Narcotics Unit organized an undercover operation and arranged a deal to purchase two pounds of meth.
When detectives and K9 deputies moved in to make the arrest, Salazar-Gurrola tried to flee but was quickly apprehended. Officers searched his vehicle and found more than two pounds of methamphetamine in a bag on the driver’s seat—an amount equivalent to more than 5,000 doses.
Salazar-Gurrola was found guilty of trafficking a controlled substance. Sentencing is scheduled for December 18, when Deputy District Attorney Michael Vieta-Kabell plans to seek the maximum penalty—life in prison with parole eligibility after ten years.
