HOUSTON — Edwin Gonzalez, 44, was arrested February 16, 2026, for theft, evading arrest, and possession of a controlled substance following an incident at Academy Sports + Outdoors, according to Harris County Precinct 2 deputies.
Deputies were dispatched to the store at 10414 Gulf Freeway after reports of a man leaving with unpaid merchandise. Upon arrival, they located a suspect matching the description. Gonzalez fled on foot but was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
During a search incident to arrest, deputies discovered a brown powder-like substance identified as heroin.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges of theft, evading on foot, and possession of a controlled substance. Gonzalez was transported to Harris County Jail.
