Evansville Man Arrested After Drunk Driving Crash with Deputy
EVANSVILLE, IN — A man is in custody after allegedly sideswiping a Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle while driving under the influence early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred on August 3, 2025, at approximately 2:17 AM, near East Columbia Street and North Morton Avenue. According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect — later identified as Edin Jimenez Hernandez, 30, of Evansville — failed to stop and led deputies on a low-speed pursuit through a nearby neighborhood.
Hernandez eventually came to a stop on East Iowa Street and was taken into custody without further incident.
During the investigation, Hernandez admitted to drinking alcohol before driving and revealed that he had never been issued a driver’s license. He failed field sobriety tests and recorded a preliminary blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.205, more than twice the legal limit. He later refused a certified chemical test.
Hernandez was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail.
Sheriff Noah Robinson issued a statement following the arrest:
“Driving under the influence places everyone on the road at risk. We are thankful no one was injured in this incident, and our deputies will continue using every available resource to remove impaired drivers from Vanderburgh County’s roadways.”
