A New Britain man, Eddie Limas, 35, was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for trafficking over 400 grams of fentanyl, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut announced on Monday.
Limas conspired with individuals in the Dominican Republic to import fentanyl, which was then stored in a stash house in the Bronx before being distributed in central Connecticut.
Between January and April of 2022, the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force conducted five controlled purchases of fentanyl from Limas. On May 13, 2022, Connecticut State Police stopped a vehicle driven by Limas’ uncle, Hector Limas, 59, of the Bronx, on Interstate 84 in Danbury. Authorities suspected Hector had delivered narcotics to Eddie’s residence, and a search of the vehicle uncovered 700 grams of fentanyl and $19,000 in cash.
Later that day, law enforcement attempted to arrest Eddie Limas in Hartford, but he crashed his car into a police cruiser and fled the scene. Investigators later observed a neighbor removing bags from Limas’ residence, which were handed off to Carmen Hernandez, 61, of Hartford. A subsequent search of Hernandez’s vehicle led to the discovery of over two kilograms of fentanyl, 300 grams of cocaine, a kilogram of marijuana, and a .380-caliber pistol.
In a follow-up search of Limas’ residence, authorities also found a loaded .40-caliber pistol along with additional narcotics.
Limas, who had been a fugitive until his arrest on May 9, 2023, was sentenced alongside his co-conspirators: Hector Limas, who received a seven-and-a-half-year sentence, and Carmen Hernandez, who was sentenced to two years in federal prison.
