Eddie Hampshire, a 24-year-old man from Belle Isle, Leeds, has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Amazon delivery driver Claudiu-Carol Kondor. The arrest follows a public appeal by West Yorkshire Police this morning. Hampshire is now the second person to be taken into custody regarding the incident.
A woman has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Mr. Kondor, 42, from Sheffield, tragically lost his life on Tuesday evening in Heights Drive, Wortley, after his silver Ford Transit van was stolen while he was making a delivery on Alliance Street. During the theft, he was partially dragged along the road as the thief sped away with him still caught in the passenger door. Responding officers found him unconscious with the help of local residents. Despite paramedics’ efforts, he was declared dead at the scene.
Tributes have poured in for Mr. Kondor, with colleagues describing him as a “beloved” driver who will be remembered for his dedication to the job and the camaraderie he brought to his team.
A 32-year-old man from Leeds was previously arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody as detectives continue their investigation.
