In a significant anti-drug operation under Operation Dawn 2.0, the East Siang Police in Arunachal Pradesh arrested two individuals involved in drug trafficking, recovering nearly 70 grams of suspected ganja, valued at approximately RS10,000 in the local illegal market.

The first arrest occurred on November 30 during a naka check at the 2-Mile gate, established to enforce the model code of conduct ahead of the December 15 panchayat and municipal elections. The team, led by ASI R Lowang, along with head constable Roni Kri and constable G Nangkar, intercepted Karson Pait from Sunarighat in Assam’s Dhemaji district. Officers recovered 14.61 grams of suspected ganja from his handbag. A case was registered under the NDPS Act at the Pasighat police station.

During questioning, Pait revealed that he obtained the contraband from Bhanu Chetri, also known as Gita Chetri, of Dakhinrupahi village in Assam’s Lakhimpur district. Acting on this information, an ADS team led by SI Johny Tasung and SI Kuncha Tangha, supervised by DySP Ayup Boko, conducted a raid at Silapathar. Chetri was arrested, and authorities recovered 55.34 grams of suspected ganja from her possession.

Both seizures were carried out in compliance with NDPS Act procedures and in the presence of independent witnesses. Items seized included the 69.95 grams of suspected ganja, a smartphone, and a packet of rolling paper.

The accused were brought to Pasighat police station, with Chetri held at the women’s police station. Police have stated that the investigation is ongoing.
