In a significant breakthrough in the fight against bike theft, the East Khasi Hills special cell and Sohra Police arrested five individuals linked to several theft cases, recovering three stolen bikes.

According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem, the police have been tracking the gang for weeks. The operation led to the arrest of Babu Marak (19) from Dalia Shella and Sunday N. Sangma (30) from Samanda, East Garo Hills, who were apprehended from Sohra Rim. The police recovered a Suzuki Gixer bike (ML05AD 4393), which had been stolen from Smit.

Syiem confirmed that the stolen bike was intended to be sold to receivers in Bangladesh. The gang had received the bike in Mawkdok from another group involved in stealing bikes within the city.

In a follow-up operation, three additional suspects were arrested from 7th Mile with a scooty. These suspects were identified as Barabor Namsaw (28) from Jirang, Banroilang Iawrod (19) from Kynbahmalai-Phlangwambroi, Mawsynram, and Declin Warjri (20) from Nongmensong.

During a continued search at Sohra, the police intercepted a rider with a R15 bike (ML05AA 3297), which had been stolen from Mawiong Umjapung on February 23. The rider abandoned the bike and fled the scene, evading capture.

Meanwhile, a special team from Pasteur beat house police arrested Navin Sunar (42) from Laban and Sanju Sunar (38) from Barapathar in Polo area. The two were found in possession of suspected stolen laptops.

Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted to breaking into a house near BK Bajoria School, where they stole two laptops and other items, including a Kingdom of Bhutan Passport belonging to Jigyel Gyeltshen.
