An interstate gang of thieves, involved in multiple past crimes, was apprehended by the East Godavari district police. Authorities recovered stolen property valued at Rs 42 lakh, including 301 grams of gold, 7 kilograms of silver items, and household appliances worth Rs 5 lakh, SP D Narasimha Kishore revealed.
The case originated from a complaint by Garimella Pavan Sharma of Bhavanipuram, Rajamahendravaram Rural mandal. Sharma and his family returned from a pilgrimage to Srisailam on July 20 to find their home burgled. Locks on the main gate and house door were broken, and two iron safes had been forced open. Among the stolen goods were 18 gold coins, 3.5 kg of silver articles, and Rs 10,000 in cash.
Following an investigation registered under Cr No 287/2025, a special team led by Inspector S Prasanna Veerayya Goud arrested accused Vemagiri Harish (34), Mortha Venkatesh Venky (36), and Tanuku Durgaprasad Surya (25). Another accused, Bandi Dharmaraju Gabriel (29) of Torredu village, was arrested in connection with a related case.
Two additional suspects, Gunnuri Ashok and Rajesh, reportedly pawned the stolen goods but remain at large.
Police also seized a Glanza car and various other stolen items across districts, including gold and silver jewelry, air conditioners, beds, refrigerators, bronze items, and televisions.
Based on confessions, the gang is linked to 12 housebreaking cases, 5 snatching incidents, 1 bike theft, and 1 attempted murder.
SP Narasimha Kishore praised the efforts of the police team, including Inspector Veerayya Goud, SIs Priya Kumar, Satyanarayana, Nagarjuna, and crime staff HC Ammiraju, PCs Satyanarayana, Kareem, BV Ramana, and Suresh Murali.
