EUGENE, Ore. — A Springfield man has been arrested in connection with the theft of youth sports funds, and investigators are asking the public for additional tips, the Eugene Police Department announced Thursday.

On September 10, the Eugene Police Property and Financial Crimes Unit arrested 38-year-old Ean Douglas Lynum following an investigation into the theft of a local youth football league’s entire fund balance.

According to police, approximately $50,000 was stolen, leaving the Bethel-area league unable to purchase equipment or provide proper gear for young athletes.

At the time of the theft, Lynum served as the league’s treasurer. He has been charged with Aggravated Theft in the First Degree and Misapplication of Entrusted Property (Embezzlement).

Authorities noted that Lynum has also been involved in other sports programs in the region. Detectives are encouraging anyone with information about similar incidents to contact the Eugene Police Department.
