LAURENS COUNTY, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has arrested a woman accused of fraudulently filing for disaster unemployment assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials said that in June 2020, Dynasty Rochelle Cunningham of Clinton filed for Disaster Unemployment Assistance through the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce website.

According to arrest warrants, Cunningham received $26,851 in benefits after submitting a false claim stating that her workplace, My Global Destinations in West Columbia, had shut down because of the pandemic. Investigators later found that the business’s listed address was incorrect.

On Nov. 25, SLED charged Cunningham with obtaining property under false pretenses valued at $10,000 or more and first-degree computer crime involving more than $10,000. The 24-year-old was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County. The investigation was launched at the request of the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, and the case will be prosecuted by the 5th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
