FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has filed multiple felony charges against 30-year-old Dyllan James Padavona, also known as Dyllan James Hopkins, for the brutal assault of a City of Fresno employee.
Padavona is accused of the attempted murder of Timothy Smith, a Public Works employee, in a shocking early morning attack. Authorities say Padavona approached Smith from behind while he was working and struck him in the back of the head with a blunt object. Smith fell unconscious and hit his head on the sidewalk, sustaining severe injuries.
He was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery. Smith remains in critical condition.
Padavona faces charges of attempted willful, deliberate, and premeditated murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and enhancements for causing great bodily injury and committing the offense while previously released on his own recognizance. If convicted on all counts and enhancements, he could be sentenced to 12 years to life in state prison.
At the time of the incident, Padavona had outstanding warrants related to multiple felony and misdemeanor cases. Fresno police arrested him later that same day. He is currently in Fresno County Jail with bail set at $554,000.
His arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in Fresno County Superior Court.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to support the family of Timothy Smith during his recovery.
