Dustin Elwin Lawrence, a 46-year-old man from Bangor, Maine, has been arrested in connection with an identity theft case involving a resident of Oakland, Maryland. The arrest follows an investigation conducted by the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.
On August 28, detectives launched an investigation after learning that an Oakland resident’s identity had been stolen and unauthorized withdrawals were made from their bank account. The case quickly developed, leading investigators to identify Lawrence as the suspect.
Just two days later, on August 30, Lawrence was apprehended by deputies with the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office in West Virginia on similar charges. Garrett County detectives then obtained a warrant for his arrest on charges of fraud, theft, and related crimes.
Lawrence is currently being held at the North Central Regional Jail in West Virginia as he awaits extradition to Maryland to face those charges.
Garrett County Sheriff Bryson Meyers thanked the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in apprehending the suspect and helping bring justice to the victim.
