In a significant breakthrough, Siddapura police have arrested a woman domestic worker and her relative for stealing jewellery and luxury items worth Rs22 lakh from a doctor’s residence in Jayanagar, Bengaluru.
The main accused, Durga Annareddy, hailing from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, had been employed at the doctor’s house through a staffing agency for the past 18 months. The incident occurred on July 28, when the doctor, who resides in Jayanagar 1st Block, was resting due to illness.
Taking advantage of the situation, Durga allegedly fled the house with gold and diamond ornaments, silverware, luxury watches, and mobile phones. When the doctor later noticed the valuables missing from the cupboards, a police complaint was immediately filed with the Siddapura police station.
Following the investigation, police traced Durga to New Rangapur village in Telangana, where she was hiding at her sister’s house. During interrogation, she confessed to the theft and revealed that her sister’s husband had helped sell some of the stolen items.
Police arrested the co-accused and recovered a substantial portion of the stolen goods, including:
A 5.40-gram diamond ring
10.45-gram diamond earrings
11.50 grams of gold jewellery
1.62 kg of silver articles
4 mobile phones
5 high-end wristwatches
Authorities confirmed that almost all the stolen property has now been recovered, and further legal proceedings are underway.
