Rameswaram: Railway Police at Rameswaram Railway Station recovered 10 kg of cannabis from an unclaimed bag in the Bhubaneswar Express early Sunday morning. The suspicious bag was found in the unreserved compartment during a routine inspection at 1 am. Upon inspection, five packets of cannabis—banned under Tamil Nadu law—were recovered. The estimated value of the contraband has not been disclosed, and the case remains under investigation.
Pune: In a related crackdown, Pune Police recently uncovered a major drug trafficking racket involving hydroponic cannabis cultivation. Narcotics worth approximately Rs 3.45 crore were seized from a rented flat in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Authorities said the investigation revealed links to an international drug network.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Somay Munde stated that coordinated raids were conducted across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Mumbai, and Goa following the arrest of an accused in a drug sale case. Narcotics including mephedrone, hydroponic cannabis (Ozikush), charas, and LSD were seized during the operations.
Five suspects have been arrested: Tushar Chetan Verma (21), Sumit Santosh Dedwal (25), Akshay Sukhlal Maher (25), Malay Rajesh Deliwala (28), and Swaraj Anant Bhosale (28). Police have also frozen Rs 7.80 lakh from their bank accounts. All accused are in police custody.
Verma was first apprehended in Khadki following intelligence inputs. Interrogation led authorities to Dedwal and Maher, who had rented a flat for hydroponic marijuana cultivation. Further investigation led to the arrests of main traffickers Malay Deliwala and Swaraj Bhosale, including raids in Goa recovering additional narcotics.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and senior city police officers.
