Officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have seized 3.186 kg of cocaine, valued at Rs 38.4 crore, from a woman arriving at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. The accused, identified as Jennifer Abbe, a resident of Ghana, had flown in from Doha, Qatar earlier on Wednesday.
The seizure came after DRI officials received a tip-off and conducted a detailed inspection of her belongings. Upon examination, they discovered the illegal drugs concealed in her possession.
Following the successful operation, Jennifer Abbe was arrested and taken into custody. Authorities are now investigating the case to uncover the larger international drug syndicate involved in the smuggling operation.
This seizure follows several similar drug busts in Bengaluru. Just days earlier, two South African nationals were arrested for smuggling and supplying MDMA, with authorities seizing 37.87 kg of the drug worth Rs 275 crore. Additionally, last month, a Bengaluru-based woman was arrested in Hyderabad for possession of MDMA worth Rs 6 lakh.
In January, customs officials at Bengaluru airport seized 23 kg of marijuana, valued at Rs 23 crore, from three individuals arriving from Bangkok. In December 2024, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police in Bengaluru seized 12 kg of MDMA, worth Rs 24 crore, from a foreign national believed to be part of an intricate drug supply chain.
