by Ananya Mehta

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials arrested two Brazilian nationals, Lucas and Bruna, for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs through Kochi airport on Friday night. The duo arrived on a flight from Dubai and reportedly swallowed more than 50 drug-filled capsules after spotting DRI officials.

The DRI team, acting on a tip-off, was waiting for their arrival. Upon noticing the officials approaching, the couple ingested the capsules suspected to contain cocaine to evade detection. Initially claiming to be on their honeymoon, the suspects later admitted to drug smuggling.

After their arrest, DRI authorities presented them in court and shifted them to a hospital, where medical procedures were started to safely retrieve the capsules.
