STATE LINE, Miss. – A man previously arrested in connection with the New Year’s Day triple homicide at a State Line gas station now faces capital murder charges, according to the Greene County District Attorney’s Office.

Drexler Johnson, 37, was originally charged with accessory after the fact and conspiracy to commit a crime following his January 9 arrest. However, on March 28, authorities upgraded his charges to include three counts of capital murder and one count of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

The fatal shooting occurred on January 1 at Clark’s Exxon on Saint Peter Street during a robbery. The victims were identified as:

Rhonda Denson, a store clerk,

Lester Campbell, her boyfriend who had just dropped her off for work, and

Dirk Jason Thornton, a customer.

Investigators reported that Campbell was shot while entering the store, Thornton was killed outside before his wallet was stolen, and Denson was dragged from a back room and murdered.

A preliminary hearing for Johnson’s new charges will be scheduled at a later date.
