Reno OB-GYN Dr. Samuel R. Chacon Indicted for Health Care Fraud
Dr. Samuel R. Chacon, a Reno-based OB-GYN and owner of the Women’s Health Center of Reno, has been arrested and indicted for health care fraud. Authorities allege that between January 1, 2017, and November 22, 2022, Dr. Chacon submitted false insurance claims for unnecessary gynecological procedures, including hysterectomies and bladder sling surgeries.
According to court documents, some of these procedures led to serious complications, and Dr. Chacon allegedly falsified medical records and misled patients about their conditions to justify the surgeries.
Christopher S. Delzotto, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Las Vegas Division, emphasized the agency’s commitment to pursuing those who exploit healthcare systems, stating, “FBI Las Vegas is determined to hold bad actors in healthcare accountable.”
A federal grand jury charged Dr. Chacon with one count of health care fraud and eight counts of making false statements related to healthcare services. His jury trial is scheduled for November 18, 2025, in front of U.S. District Judge Anne R. Traum.
If convicted, Dr. Chacon faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
